St. George’s, February 26, 2010 (GIS) – Grenadians are being encouraged to make greater use of academic scholarship opportunities being offered by various countries and institutions, such as the People’s Republic of China and the Organisation of American States (OAS).

Officials at the Scholarship Desk of the ministry are getting worried that many of the scholarships will go a begging because the deadlines for submission of applications are drawing near. While there have been calls of interest in the scholarships, not many people have actually applied for them.

The Ministry of Education is urging nationals to take the next step and submit their applications as soon as possible.

The Chinese are offering full scholarships to pursue undergraduate or Master’s degree at universities in the country for the academic year, 2010 to 2011.

The scholarships cover tuition, accommodation, learning materials, living allowance, health insurance, a once-only settlement subsidy and one round trip airline ticket.

Deadline for the submission of applications for the Chinese scholarships is March 12, 2010.

The OAS is also offering full scholarships to pursue undergraduate, graduate, related-research, Master’s or Doctoral degrees.

These Scholarships are awarded for one academic year and may be extended for a second.

Applications for the OAS scholarships must be submitted to the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development no later than March 30, 2010.
